NIWFA 2021 Electric Ireland League Winners

CHAMPIONSHIP

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND - Weekly Review wc 25/07/21 to 31/07/21

CHAMPIONSHIP

League leaders Lisburn Ladies swept aside the challenge of the women of Ballymena United comfortably winning 10-0 thanks to goals from Sara Stevenon (x3), Kerry Taggart (x2), Stacey Murdough (x2), Rachel Kerr (x2) and Abbie Burnett

 

Second placed St James Swifts kept themselves in the chase however they were made to fight hard for their win narrowly scraping home 5-4 at Killen Rangers.  The visitors had looked to be in control as strikes from Molly White (x2), Amber Dempster & Carla Devine had gave them a 4-1 lead however hosts Killen fought back and after Amy McFarland had scored that opening goal further strikes from Chelsea Scott (x2) and Emma Kee saw them tie the game at 4-4. Swifts however responded and took all three points when Devine netted once again late in the game.

 

Third placed Mid-Ulster ladies also kept themselves in the hunt as they easily beat East Belfast Ladies 7-0 the goals coming in that one from Roisin Bolger (x2), Eimear McGarrity (x2),  Lucy Badger, Jess Magee and Sharagh Murphy

 

DIVISION ONE

League leaders Larne Ladies had no game this week with Ballymacash Rangers Ladies taking full advantage to leapfrog them into top place following a tight 3-2 win at Coleraine Ladies. Abby Alexander had given Coleraine the lead but Rangers responded well through goals from Deborah McCarthy (x2) and Chloe Glover and although Darian McVicker did pull one back that was enough to see the Lisburn side home.

 

Foyle Belles bounced back after last week’s defeat at Larne by overwhelming Portadown Ladies 12-0 mainly through a six goal haul from captain Loren Smallwoods. Other goals came from Ellie Redden (x2), Michaela McGilloway, Katie Hargan, Olivia Ross and an og. That win keeps the Belles in third place in the table.

 

PWC Super Cup

This week also saw the start of our new brand PWC Super Cup competition with Ballymoney Utd, Carnmoney Athletic, Larne Ladies, Lisburn Rangers,  SOP, Foyle Belles, Belfast Swifts and Ballynahinch making it into round two where the Championship sides now join the competition. Highlights from Ballynahinch’s victory over Rosario YC are currently available to view on this week’s NIWFA Weekly review show.

 

BEST OF THE REST

In Division Two Carnmoney Athletic remain unbeaten following a comfortable win at the expense of Bangor however Lisburn Rangers also won to keep up the pressure easily disposing of Banbridge Town Ladies. Carnmoney remain 7 points clear at the top but Rangers have three games in hand. Elsewhere in this division Belfast Swifts won at Ballymena Seconds with the last game of the week seeing SOP drawing with Larne Olympic.

 

In Division Three leaders Ballynahinch Ladies slipped up after being held at home by Carnmoney Ladies with Kilmore Rec making the most of their slip to move top following a win over Shamrock Ladies. Camlough Rovers also made the most of the slip closing the gap at the top after a fine win over Moneyslane. In the divisions final game Belfast Ravens ended their recent barren run with a good victory at Banbridge Rangers highlights of which are also on this week’s NIWFA weekly review show.

 

Division Four this week saw wins for the 22nd Ladies,  Greenisland, Ballymoney United, Antrim Rovers and Killen Rangers Reserves.  Rosario continue to lead the way in this division however there’s only now one point between them and Ballymoney who have three games in hand.

 

And finally in Division Five Craigavon City were denied the chance to move top of the table following a defeat at the hand of Newhill. It’s Lisburn Ladies Swifts who remain top of the table in this division.

 

PWC SUPER CUP - SECOND ROUND DRAW

 

 

The draw for the second round of this seasons PWC Super Cup Competition took place on Tuesday night and as ever it threw up some very interesting ties which came out of the hat as follows:

Belfast Swifts v Ballynahinch

Lisburn Ladies v Carnmoney

Mid Ulster ladies v St Oliver Plunkett

Foyle Belles v Lisburn Rangers

Killen Rangers v East Belfast

St James Swifts v Ballymena Utd

Larne Ladies v Ballymoney Ladies

 

The matches are to be played on Friday 13 August at 7:30pm (or 7:15pm if there are no floodlights).

 

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – 18/07/21 to 24/07/21

 

CHAMPIONSHIP

Goals from Molly White & Jodie Shannon were enough to give St James Swifts three massive points in the hunt for promotion as they defeated rivals Mid Ulster Ladies 2-0. This win saw them move three points clear in second place in the standings.

Ballymena were the big scorers last week as they dismantled Comber Rec 6-1 despite going behind to a first minute Shannon McCullough strike, United fought back well with hat-tricks from both Megan Henry and Chelsea Millar securing the points.

In the divisions other game East Belfast Ladies and Belfast Celtic Ladies both drew blanks as the game between them ended 0-0 at Inverary Park

 

DIVISION ONE

Larne Ladies won the big game of the week in Division One defeating Foyle Belles 2-1 although it did take a late second goal of the night from Elle Houston to secure the points. Foyle had taken the lead through Michaela McGilloway before Houston had equalised to level the game just before half time. Ballymacash kept themselves well  in the promotion race as well defeating Armagh City although it was only a single goal from Deborah Douglas that separated the sides.

 

BEST OF THE REST

Carnmoney Athletic opened up a four point gap at the top of the second division after victory over St Oliver Plunkett although with Lisburn Rangers Ladies having two games in hand they will still remain the favourites to win that division. Belfast Swifts had a narrow win over Bangor while in the divisions final game of the week Banbridge Town and Ballymena Utd Second battled out an entertaining draw

In division three a combination of dropped points from Ballynahinch, who draw at Camlough Rovers, and a win for Kilmore Rec saw Kilmore move to the top of division three.  In the divisions others game Shamrock ladies secured three points following victory over Belfast Ravens

In Division Four there were wins for Rosario, Ballymoney Utd and Antrim Rovers, the nett results of those games being that Rosario remain top of the divisions however Ballymoney with three games in hand and maximum points gained so far this season will still believe they can overtake them at the summit.

And finally there was just the one game in Division Five which saw Lisburn Ladies Swifts win an entertaining game over Newhill, highlights of this are also on this week’s NIWFA TV

 

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 11/07/21 - 17/07/21

 

CHAMPIONSHIP

It was Lisburn ladies who triumphed in the big Championship top of the table clash by 4-1 against Mid Ulster Ladies when the sides met last Wednesday night.  The youngsters from Mid Ulster battled hard throughout but ultimately were outdone by goals from Stacey Murdough (x 2),  Morgan Shannon and an injury time strike from Rachel Kerr, Mid Ulster’s goal came from Sharagh Murphy.  

This result meant that there would be a great chance for the ladies of St James Swifts to move into second place in the standings and take that chance they did comfortably winning 10-4 at Belfast Celtic Ladies where two players (Amber Dempster and Carla Devine) notched up hat-tricks and they in turn were ably assisted by goals from Molly White (x 2 ), Cathy Kelly and Eimhear O’Prey. Celtic responded with goals from Elaine Loughran, Ursula McCotter, Emma McGonnell and Ciara Leinster.

In the Championships only other game last week the long journey to Castlederg proved too much for Ballymena Women who lost 0-5 to Killen Rangers Ladies, goals in that one coming from Stacey Johnston ( x 2), Hollie Johnston, Chelsea Scott and Emma Kee

 

DIVISION ONE

Larne Ladies kept up their 100% record in division one but had to work hard to do so before eventually winning 2-1 at Coleraine ladies. Storm Ballantyne had given Coleraine the lead but the league leaders battled back to secure the points thanks to goals from Elle Houston and Amanda Morton.

Ballymacash Ladies remain in second place following a fine 4-0 victory over Portadown Ladies although it wasn’t until the second half that all the action took place in this one with all four goals coming in the second period of play when two goals from Chloe Glover and further strikes from Deborah McCarthy and Deborah Douglas secured the three points.

In the divisions final game Armagh City ladies comfortably won 5-0 at Crewe United Ladies, goals in this one coming from Phillipa Dougan-Toal (x 3),  Megan Bothwell and Cara Corr

 

BEST OF THE REST

The big game in Division two between Carnmoney Athletic and Lisburn Rangers was postponed due to the Co Antrim Cup, a rearrangement which gave St Oliver Plunkett and Belfast Swifts the chance to close the gap on the top two.  SOP achieved this by winning at Bangor however the Swifts were unable to close the gap after losing at Banbridge Town. In the final game in this division Larne Olympic and Ballymena Utd Reserves drew 1-1

In division three the top of the table clash between Ballynahinch and Kilmore Rec saw the sides battle out a 1-1 draw a result which allowed Camlough Rovers to close the gap after defeating Carnmoney Ladies. Shamrock Ladies also had a comfortable win, this time 4-0 over Banbridge Rangers.

Rosario regained top place in division four following a comfortable win over Belfast Ravens Seconds whilst the 22nd Ladies also returned to winning ways with a victory at Dromara Viillage.

And finally there was just the one game in Division Five but it was an important one as Newhiill moved back to the top of the table over second placed Lisburn Ladies Swifts with a great win over Ballymoney Utd Ladies Reserves. The Swifts and Newhill play one another this week.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 04/07/21

CHAMPIONSHIP
 
The top three sides in the Championship all kept up the pace last week with all three recording comfortable victories to keep them in the hunt for promotion. Lisburn Ladies comfortably disposed of Belfast Celtic Ladies 11-2 with substitute Sara Stevenson being the star of the show netting five times despite only coming on as a second half sub. The other goals came from Stacey Murdough (x3), Mia Rowan (x2) and Kerry Taggart with Emma Louise McGonnell netting both goals for the Celts.
 
Mid Ulster Ladies remain in second place after defeating Killen Rangers 4-0 thanks to goals from Sharagh Murphy (x2), Lucy Badger and Jess Magee whilst St James Swifts also kept up their challenge after having came back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Comber Rec Ladies 6-2. Comber had stormed into the lead through goals from Shannon McCullough & Regan Montgomery but St James battled back superbly thanks to goals from Molly White (x2), Amber Dempster, Clare Shaw, Carla Devine and an own goal.
 
In the Championships final game Ballymena Utd Women also overcame a two goal deficit at East Belfast (goals on the night from Kerry Eddis, Hannah Kilgore & Lisa Falloon) to win 8-3 with their goals coming from Hannah Firth (x2), Megan Henry (x2), Indeea Neeson, Kylie Doherty, an own goal and Michelle McDonald, Highlights from this one care currently online on our weekly review show.
 
DIVISION ONE
Just the one game played in Division One this week but it turned out to be cracker as Portadown ladies edged out Armagh City by 3-2. Armagh had taken the lead through Joanna McKinney but an Anna Acheson hat-trick had saw the Ports turn the game in their favour however a second McKinney strike ensured they had to battle hard to hold on to the points.
 
BEST OF THE REST
Lisburn Rangers and Carnmoney Athletic continued their respective charges at the top of Division Two the Rangers defeating Belfast Swifts and Carnmoney overcoming Ballymena Utd Seconds. These results see Carnmoney remain one point clear at the top of the table but Rangers are only one point behind with a game in hand. Elsewhere in the division Belfast Swifts bounced back from that defeat by Lisburn Rangers to beat St Oliver Plunkett and Larne Olympic defeated Banbridge Town.
 
In division three there was a massive win for Kilmore Rec Ladies who defeated their promotion rivals Camlough 2-0 and in doing so moved within one point of their Co Down rivals with a game in hand. Ballynahinch made the most of this result moving three points clear at the top after a 4-1 win over Belfast Ravens whilst elsewhere there were wins for Carnmoney Ladies and Banbridge Rangers.
 
In Division Four Rosario remain top following a fine 2-0 wiin at Ambassadors although Ballymoney are only one point behind with two games in hand following their big win over the 22nd Ladies. In the league’s only other game this week Killen Rangers reserves defeated Belfast Ravens II’s.
 
In Division five Belfast Celtic Reserves have unfortunately had to withdraw from the league so there was only one game played which saw Newhill defeating Ballymoney Reserves.
 
And finally we wish all of our NIWFA teams every success in the quarter finals of this season’s Electric Ireland IFA Women’s challenge cup competition which will be played on July 23rd. NIWFA teams still remaining are Lisburn Rangers who defeated Lisburn Ladies in a fantastic game of football (highlights on our weekly video review) to set up a mouth watering tie v Cliftonville Ladies. Carnmoney who will take on the mighty Glentoran Women after defeating Camlough, Mid Ulster Ladies will now host Sion Swifts after defeating Belfast Celtic and St James Swifts who will travel to Seaview to take on Crusaders Strikers.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 27/06/21

Championship
The 100% record of Lisburn Ladies continued this week as they secured another fine win, this time easily disposing of Comber Rec by 9-0 thanks mainly to four more goals from in form Kerry Taggart who was ably assisted by to goals from Mia Rowan (x2), Abbie Burnett, Claire Rooney and Morgan Shannon. It’s not all one way traffic however for the league leaders as the ladies of Mid Ulster kept up the chase with a fine 3-0 victory themselves over Ballymena United Women, the goals in this one coming from Eimear McGarrity (x2) and Jessica Magee. Those results mean Lisburn lead Mid Ulster by six points but the Cookstown based side do have two games in hand. Elsewhere St James defeated East Belfast 5-1 their goals coming from Carla Devine (x2), Amber Dempster, Tiarna Hunter and Claire Shaw with the East’s reply coming from Rebecca Dickson whilst in the final game of the week there was a closely fought game between Killen Rangers and Belfast Celtic. Rangers came out on top in that one narrowly winning 4-3 thanks to an 88th minute penalty winner which was converted by Amy McFarland. Prior to this the game saw two goals from Killen’s Chelsea Scott, who responded well after missing an earlier penalty, and Stacey Johnston with Celtic’s replies from Katie Jo Catney, Leola McErlane and Amy Burden. Celtic’s Eadaoin ni Chiarrain was also sent off in this one for a second bookable offence.
 
Division 1
In Division One all top three sides recorded victories with current leaders Larne Ladies defeating Portadown 3-1 thanks to goals from Georgia Crawford, Elle Houston and Amanda Morton, the Ports reply coming from Megan Newell.
Crewe United’s week had started well on Wednesday with a 4-2 victory over Coleraine giving them their first win of the season thanks to a fantastic four goal haul from Ellen McClure (Coleraine’s goals from Lizzy McNoughter and Abby Alexander) however they were then sent crashing back to earth as second placed Ballymacash Rangers stormed home 13-0 against them on Friday night. The Rangers heroes of that one were captain Chloe Glover who scored four, Mollie Moore who also scored a hat- trick, Jodi Keenan (x2) Deborah McCarthy, Deborah Douglas, Jodie Murphy and an own goal.
Third placed Foyle Belles also keep themselves in contention with a 2-0 victory at Armagh City with captain Loren Smallwoods getting both the goals.

Division Two
 
Lisburn Rangers continue to storm their way through Division Two, St Oliver Plunkett being the latest side to be overwhelmed by the league leaders, Sophie Megaw was the main thorn in the side with no less than six individual goals in that game. Carnmoney Athletic are however refusing to give up the fight and remain two points off the summit following a comfortable win at Banbridge Town on Wednesday and then following this up with another big win, this time at the expense of Larne Olympic on Friday night. Larne Olympic did however have reason to celebrate earlier in the week following a victory at Belfast Swifts and in the final game of the week Ballymena United Ladies Seconds defeated Bangor.
 
Division Three
 
It’s Ballynahinch Ladies leading the way from Camlough Rovers in Division three with both sides securing wins this week against Banbridge Rangers and Belfast Ravens respectively. Kilmore Rec Ladies had a fine 3-2 victory away to Carnmoney while in the final game this week Shamrock Ladies and Moneyslane battled it out for a 3-3 draw a result which gave Moneyslane their first point of the season.
 
 
 
Division Four
In Division Four Ambassadors had a mixed bag this week losing to the 22nd Ladies on Wednesday night only to bounce back with victory at Greenisland on the Friday night, highlights of whih wil be amongst our featured games on our weekly video review this week. League leaders Rosario were forced to work hard for their points with only the one goal separating them in a 4-3 win at Killen Rangers Reserves with Ballymoney Utd remaining within a point of the summit after defeating Antrim Rovers. Whilst in the final game this week Dromara Village secured their first points of the season by defeating Belfast Ravens Seconds.
 
Division Five
And finally in Division Five leaders Lisburn Ladies Swifts defeated Belfast Celtic Ladies reserves and Ballymoney United had a good away win at JM Ladies.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 20/06/21

Championship
 
Lisburn Ladies continued their charge for promotion as they kept their perfect start to the season ongoing with a comfortable 9-2 win at East Belfast Ladies. Goals for Lisburn came from Kerry Taggart (x 3), Mia Rowan (x 2) Rachel Kerr, Claire Rooney, Jessica Sellars and Stacey Murdough, East’s consolation strikes both came from Shelly Stothers.
Mid Ulster Ladies also kept up the pace at the top of the table defeating Belfast Celtic Ladies 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick of goals from Jessica Magee and a single strike from Eimear McGarrity with the result leaving them within three points of the league summit.
St James Swifts find themselves in third place in the standings after easily defeating Ballymena United women 9-1 thanks to hat-tricks from recent signing Amber Dempster and Molly White who now seem to be forming a formidable partnership up top for the Belfast side. Swifts other goals came from Carla Devine (x 2) and Ella Copeland whilst United replied through Kara McCartney.
In the final game of the Championship a Shannon McCullough goal proved to be decisive as Comber Rec picked up their first win of the season by defeating Killen Rangers 1-0
 
Division 1
Just the two games completed this week in Division One with Larne Ladies continuing to set the pace as they made it four wins from four games played following a 4-1 win over Armagh City Ladies despite going a goal behind to a Beth McKinney strike. Larne however roared back and secured the points thanks to two goals apiece from Georgia Crawford and Amanda Morton.
In Division One’s only other game Foyle Belles also kept up the pace at the top although they were pushed all the way before eventually winning 3-2 at Coleraine Ladies. Foyle’s goals came from Ellie Redden, Michaela McGilloway & Loren Smallwoods with Coleraine’s replies both coming from Abby Alexander

Division Two
Bangor Ladies picked up their first points of the season with a victory over Banbridge Town Ladies whilst St Oliver Plunkett ladies also won, this time against Ballymena United Reserves
 
Division Three
In Division Three there were away wins in all four games with Carnmoney Ladies, Kilmore Rec Ladies, Ballynahinch Ladies and Camlough Rovers all winning. It’s Ballynainch and Camlough leading the way in Division Three with 13 points with Kilmore Rec in close pursuit on nine points with a game in hand.
 
Division Four
In Division Four it was a tough week for Belfast Ravens seconds XI who suffered two heavy defeats to Rosario and Ballymoney United however they deserve a lot of credit for continuing to battle away regardless, an attitude which will doubtless see them making good headway soon. Elsewhere Greenisland Ladies edged home against the 22nd Ladies and Antrim Rovers Ladies defeated Ambassadors. Rosario currently lead the way in Division four with Ballymoney in hot pursuit.
Division Five
And finally in Division Five Strabane Ladies and Newhill closed the gap on the league leaders Lisburn Ladies Swifts with both taking advantage of a free week for the Swifts and securing wins over Belfast Celtic Ladies and JM Ladies.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 13/06/21

Championship
The big clash between Lisburn Ladies and St James Swifts promised to be a tight game when the sides met at the Bluebell stadium last Wednesday night however as it turned out Lisburn were well on top cruising home by 7-1 thanks mainly to four goals from Kerry Taggart who was ably assisted by goals from Stacey Murdough, Rachel Kerr and Mia Rowan. Swifts consolation goal came from Carla Devine.
Mid Ulster Ladies also kept up their winning ways defeating Comber Rec 7-1 although their goals were more spread throughout the team thanks to two goals from Eimear McGarrity and single strikes from Lucy Badger, Jessica Magee, Rachel Rodgers, Sharagh Murphy and Roisin Bolger, Combers solitary reply came from a converted penalty by Lucy Carville
After picking up their first ever points in the Championship last week Belfast Celtic Ladies were brought back to earth as they lost 1-3 to Ballymena United women. The Celts had led 1-0 thanks to a 10th minute goal from Leah McAvoy but two goals from United’s Megan Henry and a third from Michelle McDonald saw the sky blues go home with the points.
And in the final game of the Championship it was honours even as Killen Rangers and East Belfast drew 2-2,Rangers goals coming from Grainne McLaughlin and Chelsea Scott with the East’s coming from Shelly Stothers and Kerry Eddis.
 
Division One
Ballymacash’s perfect start to the season came to a crashing end at Greysteel as hosts Foyle Belles hit three goals without reply thanks to 2 strikes from Loren Smallwood and a third from Bronagh Dunne. Elsewhere Portadown Ladies picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory at Crewe with Megan Newell netting two and Courtney Adamson netting for the Ports and the returning Ellen Morgan scoring on her return for Crewe. Finally in Division One Coleraine Ladies returned to winning ways with a 5-2 win over Armagh City thanks to goals from Cerys Sharkey (x2), Megan Alexander, Shairee Nicholl and Rachel Madden. The visitors goals came from captain Megan Bothwell and Carol Black.

Lisburn Rangers continued their sequence of big wins this time overcoming Ballymena Utd seconds while there was a win for Banbridge Town Ladies who narrowly defeated St Oliver Plunkett. In the divisions final game Carnmoney Athletic drew 1-1 with Belfast Swifts.
 
Division Three
Division Three is turning into a close race at the top with only one points separating the top three following wins for Ballynahinch Ladies, Kilmore Rec Ladies and Camlough Rovers Ladies who defeated Moneyslane, Banbridge Rangers and Shamrock Ladies respectively, The divisions final game between Carnmoney Ladies and Belfast Ravens ended scoreless.
 
Division Four
In Division Four there were big wins for Rosario and Ambassadors with Rosario now four points clear at the top of the table from Ballymoney United Ladies who however have three games in hand. Elsewhere Antrim Rovers had a fine win over Greenisland Ladies
 
Division Five
And finally in Division Five it’s Lisburn Ladies Swifts leading the way following their defeat of Ballymoney United with Newhill now in second place in the standings following their success over JM Ladies. Strabane Athletic’s 100% winning start to the season came to an end as they lost 0-1 to Craigavon City
 
 
 

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND - Weekly Review wc 01/08/21 to 07/08/21

 

CHAMPIONSHIP

 

The big Championship top of the table clash between St James Swifts and Lisburn Ladies ended off with Lisburn comfortably winning the game 5-1 thanks to goals from Kerry Taggart (x2), Sara Stevenson, Stacey Murdough and Morgan Shannon. The Lisburn side had led 2-0 and, despite St Hams reducing the deficit to a single goal following a converted penalty from Siobhan Bell, they held on comfortably to win and in doing so opening up a six point gap at the top of the table. Highlights from this game are this week’s NIWFA weekly review show.

Mid Ulster Ladies made the most of St James slip up to leapfrog them into second place in the table although they were mad to fight hard for their win before overcoming Comber Rec 2-1, goals for Mid Ulster were from Mykylea Stewart and Eimear McGarrity with the Comber goal coming from Lindsay Johnston.

Ballymena United Women were the big winners last week hitting twelve without reply against Belfast Celtic thanks mainly to a four goal haul from Megan Henry along with doubles from Hanna Firth and Kyle Doherty and ably supported by single goals from Michelle McDonald, Beth Hunter, Ella McDowell and Niamh McGaughey.

Finally Killen Rangers also had a big win comfortably easing home 6-1 at East Belfast ladies, Chelsea Meighan being the starring player here as we she scored four goals with their case aided as well by two East Belfast og’s on the night. East Belfast’s sole reply came from Maeve Nethercott.

 

DIVISION ONE

 

Just the two games in Division One this week with Portadown recording a comfortable 7-1 win over Crewe United. Five goal Zoey McCallister was the star of that particular show with other strikes coming from Anna Acheson and Tina Brush and Crewe’s sole reply from captain Colleen Long.

In the divisions only other game Coleraine Ladies picked up all three points after narrowly defeating Armagh City Ladies 2-1 at Holm Park thanks to two Abby Alexander goals with a late strike from City’s Amy Robinson not being enough to stop the three points heading back to Coleraine.

 

BEST OF THE REST

 

In Division Two Carnmoney Athletic remain top however Lisburn Rangers have now moved within one point of the table toppers with this week’s game between the two sides destined to be one of the games of the season in this division.

 In Division Three it’s as we were with the top three sides, Ballynahinch, Kilmore Rec and Camlough Rovers all picking up three points. There’s now only three points separating the teams at the top so still plenty to play for. In the divisions other game Carnmoney Ladies won against Belfast Ravens.

Division Four this week saw a comfortable win for Ballymoney United over rivals Rosario YC a result which allowed Antrim Rovers ladies to move into second place in the table following their two fine victories over Belfast Ravens II’s and 22nd ladies.  Ambassadors’ brushed aside the challenge of Dromara Village, and in the final game played this week Killen Ladies Reserves edged home over Greenisland.

And finally in Division Five there was just the one game this week however it did see Strabane Athletic move back to top of the table following a fine win over Craigavon City

 

 

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND - Weekly Review wc 25/07/21 to 31/07/21

CHAMPIONSHIP

League leaders Lisburn Ladies swept aside the challenge of the women of Ballymena United comfortably winning 10-0 thanks to goals from Sara Stevenon (x3), Kerry Taggart (x2), Stacey Murdough (x2), Rachel Kerr (x2) and Abbie Burnett

 

Second placed St James Swifts kept themselves in the chase however they were made to fight hard for their win narrowly scraping home 5-4 at Killen Rangers.  The visitors had looked to be in control as strikes from Molly White (x2), Amber Dempster & Carla Devine had gave them a 4-1 lead however hosts Killen fought back and after Amy McFarland had scored that opening goal further strikes from Chelsea Scott (x2) and Emma Kee saw them tie the game at 4-4. Swifts however responded and took all three points when Devine netted once again late in the game.

 

Third placed Mid-Ulster ladies also kept themselves in the hunt as they easily beat East Belfast Ladies 7-0 the goals coming in that one from Roisin Bolger (x2), Eimear McGarrity (x2),  Lucy Badger, Jess Magee and Sharagh Murphy

 

DIVISION ONE

League leaders Larne Ladies had no game this week with Ballymacash Rangers Ladies taking full advantage to leapfrog them into top place following a tight 3-2 win at Coleraine Ladies. Abby Alexander had given Coleraine the lead but Rangers responded well through goals from Deborah McCarthy (x2) and Chloe Glover and although Darian McVicker did pull one back that was enough to see the Lisburn side home.

 

Foyle Belles bounced back after last week’s defeat at Larne by overwhelming Portadown Ladies 12-0 mainly through a six goal haul from captain Loren Smallwoods. Other goals came from Ellie Redden (x2), Michaela McGilloway, Katie Hargan, Olivia Ross and an og. That win keeps the Belles in third place in the table.

 

PWC Super Cup

This week also saw the start of our new brand PWC Super Cup competition with Ballymoney Utd, Carnmoney Athletic, Larne Ladies, Lisburn Rangers,  SOP, Foyle Belles, Belfast Swifts and Ballynahinch making it into round two where the Championship sides now join the competition. Highlights from Ballynahinch’s victory over Rosario YC are currently available to view on this week’s NIWFA Weekly review show.

 

BEST OF THE REST

In Division Two Carnmoney Athletic remain unbeaten following a comfortable win at the expense of Bangor however Lisburn Rangers also won to keep up the pressure easily disposing of Banbridge Town Ladies. Carnmoney remain 7 points clear at the top but Rangers have three games in hand. Elsewhere in this division Belfast Swifts won at Ballymena Seconds with the last game of the week seeing SOP drawing with Larne Olympic.

 

In Division Three leaders Ballynahinch Ladies slipped up after being held at home by Carnmoney Ladies with Kilmore Rec making the most of their slip to move top following a win over Shamrock Ladies. Camlough Rovers also made the most of the slip closing the gap at the top after a fine win over Moneyslane. In the divisions final game Belfast Ravens ended their recent barren run with a good victory at Banbridge Rangers highlights of which are also on this week’s NIWFA weekly review show.

 

Division Four this week saw wins for the 22nd Ladies,  Greenisland, Ballymoney United, Antrim Rovers and Killen Rangers Reserves.  Rosario continue to lead the way in this division however there’s only now one point between them and Ballymoney who have three games in hand.

 

And finally in Division Five Craigavon City were denied the chance to move top of the table following a defeat at the hand of Newhill. It’s Lisburn Ladies Swifts who remain top of the table in this division.

 

 

PWC SUPER CUP - SECOND ROUND DRAW

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – 18/07/21 to 24/07/21

 

CHAMPIONSHIP

Goals from Molly White & Jodie Shannon were enough to give St James Swifts three massive points in the hunt for promotion as they defeated rivals Mid Ulster Ladies 2-0. This win saw them move three points clear in second place in the standings.

Ballymena were the big scorers last week as they dismantled Comber Rec 6-1 despite going behind to a first minute Shannon McCullough strike, United fought back well with hat-tricks from both Megan Henry and Chelsea Millar securing the points.

In the divisions other game East Belfast Ladies and Belfast Celtic Ladies both drew blanks as the game between them ended 0-0 at Inverary Park

 

DIVISION ONE

Larne Ladies won the big game of the week in Division One defeating Foyle Belles 2-1 although it did take a late second goal of the night from Elle Houston to secure the points. Foyle had taken the lead through Michaela McGilloway before Houston had equalised to level the game just before half time. Ballymacash kept themselves well  in the promotion race as well defeating Armagh City although it was only a single goal from Deborah Douglas that separated the sides.

 

BEST OF THE REST

Carnmoney Athletic opened up a four point gap at the top of the second division after victory over St Oliver Plunkett although with Lisburn Rangers Ladies having two games in hand they will still remain the favourites to win that division. Belfast Swifts had a narrow win over Bangor while in the divisions final game of the week Banbridge Town and Ballymena Utd Second battled out an entertaining draw

In division three a combination of dropped points from Ballynahinch, who draw at Camlough Rovers, and a win for Kilmore Rec saw Kilmore move to the top of division three.  In the divisions others game Shamrock ladies secured three points following victory over Belfast Ravens

In Division Four there were wins for Rosario, Ballymoney Utd and Antrim Rovers, the nett results of those games being that Rosario remain top of the divisions however Ballymoney with three games in hand and maximum points gained so far this season will still believe they can overtake them at the summit.

And finally there was just the one game in Division Five which saw Lisburn Ladies Swifts win an entertaining game over Newhill, highlights of this are also on this week’s NIWFA TV

 

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 11/07/21 - 17/07/21

 

CHAMPIONSHIP

It was Lisburn ladies who triumphed in the big Championship top of the table clash by 4-1 against Mid Ulster Ladies when the sides met last Wednesday night.  The youngsters from Mid Ulster battled hard throughout but ultimately were outdone by goals from Stacey Murdough (x 2),  Morgan Shannon and an injury time strike from Rachel Kerr, Mid Ulster’s goal came from Sharagh Murphy.  

This result meant that there would be a great chance for the ladies of St James Swifts to move into second place in the standings and take that chance they did comfortably winning 10-4 at Belfast Celtic Ladies where two players (Amber Dempster and Carla Devine) notched up hat-tricks and they in turn were ably assisted by goals from Molly White (x 2 ), Cathy Kelly and Eimhear O’Prey. Celtic responded with goals from Elaine Loughran, Ursula McCotter, Emma McGonnell and Ciara Leinster.

In the Championships only other game last week the long journey to Castlederg proved too much for Ballymena Women who lost 0-5 to Killen Rangers Ladies, goals in that one coming from Stacey Johnston ( x 2), Hollie Johnston, Chelsea Scott and Emma Kee

 

DIVISION ONE

Larne Ladies kept up their 100% record in division one but had to work hard to do so before eventually winning 2-1 at Coleraine ladies. Storm Ballantyne had given Coleraine the lead but the league leaders battled back to secure the points thanks to goals from Elle Houston and Amanda Morton.

Ballymacash Ladies remain in second place following a fine 4-0 victory over Portadown Ladies although it wasn’t until the second half that all the action took place in this one with all four goals coming in the second period of play when two goals from Chloe Glover and further strikes from Deborah McCarthy and Deborah Douglas secured the three points.

In the divisions final game Armagh City ladies comfortably won 5-0 at Crewe United Ladies, goals in this one coming from Phillipa Dougan-Toal (x 3),  Megan Bothwell and Cara Corr

 

BEST OF THE REST

The big game in Division two between Carnmoney Athletic and Lisburn Rangers was postponed due to the Co Antrim Cup, a rearrangement which gave St Oliver Plunkett and Belfast Swifts the chance to close the gap on the top two.  SOP achieved this by winning at Bangor however the Swifts were unable to close the gap after losing at Banbridge Town. In the final game in this division Larne Olympic and Ballymena Utd Reserves drew 1-1

In division three the top of the table clash between Ballynahinch and Kilmore Rec saw the sides battle out a 1-1 draw a result which allowed Camlough Rovers to close the gap after defeating Carnmoney Ladies. Shamrock Ladies also had a comfortable win, this time 4-0 over Banbridge Rangers.

Rosario regained top place in division four following a comfortable win over Belfast Ravens Seconds whilst the 22nd Ladies also returned to winning ways with a victory at Dromara Viillage.

And finally there was just the one game in Division Five but it was an important one as Newhiill moved back to the top of the table over second placed Lisburn Ladies Swifts with a great win over Ballymoney Utd Ladies Reserves. The Swifts and Newhill play one another this week.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 04/07/21

CHAMPIONSHIP
 
The top three sides in the Championship all kept up the pace last week with all three recording comfortable victories to keep them in the hunt for promotion. Lisburn Ladies comfortably disposed of Belfast Celtic Ladies 11-2 with substitute Sara Stevenson being the star of the show netting five times despite only coming on as a second half sub. The other goals came from Stacey Murdough (x3), Mia Rowan (x2) and Kerry Taggart with Emma Louise McGonnell netting both goals for the Celts.
 
Mid Ulster Ladies remain in second place after defeating Killen Rangers 4-0 thanks to goals from Sharagh Murphy (x2), Lucy Badger and Jess Magee whilst St James Swifts also kept up their challenge after having came back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Comber Rec Ladies 6-2. Comber had stormed into the lead through goals from Shannon McCullough & Regan Montgomery but St James battled back superbly thanks to goals from Molly White (x2), Amber Dempster, Clare Shaw, Carla Devine and an own goal.
 
In the Championships final game Ballymena Utd Women also overcame a two goal deficit at East Belfast (goals on the night from Kerry Eddis, Hannah Kilgore & Lisa Falloon) to win 8-3 with their goals coming from Hannah Firth (x2), Megan Henry (x2), Indeea Neeson, Kylie Doherty, an own goal and Michelle McDonald, Highlights from this one care currently online on our weekly review show.
 
DIVISION ONE
Just the one game played in Division One this week but it turned out to be cracker as Portadown ladies edged out Armagh City by 3-2. Armagh had taken the lead through Joanna McKinney but an Anna Acheson hat-trick had saw the Ports turn the game in their favour however a second McKinney strike ensured they had to battle hard to hold on to the points.

Lisburn Rangers and Carnmoney Athletic continued their respective charges at the top of Division Two the Rangers defeating Belfast Swifts and Carnmoney overcoming Ballymena Utd Seconds. These results see Carnmoney remain one point clear at the top of the table but Rangers are only one point behind with a game in hand. Elsewhere in the division Belfast Swifts bounced back from that defeat by Lisburn Rangers to beat St Oliver Plunkett and Larne Olympic defeated Banbridge Town.
 
In division three there was a massive win for Kilmore Rec Ladies who defeated their promotion rivals Camlough 2-0 and in doing so moved within one point of their Co Down rivals with a game in hand. Ballynahinch made the most of this result moving three points clear at the top after a 4-1 win over Belfast Ravens whilst elsewhere there were wins for Carnmoney Ladies and Banbridge Rangers.
 
In Division Four Rosario remain top following a fine 2-0 wiin at Ambassadors although Ballymoney are only one point behind with two games in hand following their big win over the 22nd Ladies. In the league’s only other game this week Killen Rangers reserves defeated Belfast Ravens II’s.
 
In Division five Belfast Celtic Reserves have unfortunately had to withdraw from the league so there was only one game played which saw Newhill defeating Ballymoney Reserves.
 
And finally we wish all of our NIWFA teams every success in the quarter finals of this season’s Electric Ireland IFA Women’s challenge cup competition which will be played on July 23rd. NIWFA teams still remaining are Lisburn Rangers who defeated Lisburn Ladies in a fantastic game of football (highlights on our weekly video review) to set up a mouth watering tie v Cliftonville Ladies. Carnmoney who will take on the mighty Glentoran Women after defeating Camlough, Mid Ulster Ladies will now host Sion Swifts after defeating Belfast Celtic and St James Swifts who will travel to Seaview to take on Crusaders Strikers.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 27/06/21

Championship
The 100% record of Lisburn Ladies continued this week as they secured another fine win, this time easily disposing of Comber Rec by 9-0 thanks mainly to four more goals from in form Kerry Taggart who was ably assisted by to goals from Mia Rowan (x2), Abbie Burnett, Claire Rooney and Morgan Shannon. It’s not all one way traffic however for the league leaders as the ladies of Mid Ulster kept up the chase with a fine 3-0 victory themselves over Ballymena United Women, the goals in this one coming from Eimear McGarrity (x2) and Jessica Magee. Those results mean Lisburn lead Mid Ulster by six points but the Cookstown based side do have two games in hand. Elsewhere St James defeated East Belfast 5-1 their goals coming from Carla Devine (x2), Amber Dempster, Tiarna Hunter and Claire Shaw with the East’s reply coming from Rebecca Dickson whilst in the final game of the week there was a closely fought game between Killen Rangers and Belfast Celtic. Rangers came out on top in that one narrowly winning 4-3 thanks to an 88th minute penalty winner which was converted by Amy McFarland. Prior to this the game saw two goals from Killen’s Chelsea Scott, who responded well after missing an earlier penalty, and Stacey Johnston with Celtic’s replies from Katie Jo Catney, Leola McErlane and Amy Burden. Celtic’s Eadaoin ni Chiarrain was also sent off in this one for a second bookable offence.
 
Division 1
In Division One all top three sides recorded victories with current leaders Larne Ladies defeating Portadown 3-1 thanks to goals from Georgia Crawford, Elle Houston and Amanda Morton, the Ports reply coming from Megan Newell.
Crewe United’s week had started well on Wednesday with a 4-2 victory over Coleraine giving them their first win of the season thanks to a fantastic four goal haul from Ellen McClure (Coleraine’s goals from Lizzy McNoughter and Abby Alexander) however they were then sent crashing back to earth as second placed Ballymacash Rangers stormed home 13-0 against them on Friday night. The Rangers heroes of that one were captain Chloe Glover who scored four, Mollie Moore who also scored a hat- trick, Jodi Keenan (x2) Deborah McCarthy, Deborah Douglas, Jodie Murphy and an own goal.
Third placed Foyle Belles also keep themselves in contention with a 2-0 victory at Armagh City with captain Loren Smallwoods getting both the goals.

Division Two
 
Lisburn Rangers continue to storm their way through Division Two, St Oliver Plunkett being the latest side to be overwhelmed by the league leaders, Sophie Megaw was the main thorn in the side with no less than six individual goals in that game. Carnmoney Athletic are however refusing to give up the fight and remain two points off the summit following a comfortable win at Banbridge Town on Wednesday and then following this up with another big win, this time at the expense of Larne Olympic on Friday night. Larne Olympic did however have reason to celebrate earlier in the week following a victory at Belfast Swifts and in the final game of the week Ballymena United Ladies Seconds defeated Bangor.
 
Division Three
 
It’s Ballynahinch Ladies leading the way from Camlough Rovers in Division three with both sides securing wins this week against Banbridge Rangers and Belfast Ravens respectively. Kilmore Rec Ladies had a fine 3-2 victory away to Carnmoney while in the final game this week Shamrock Ladies and Moneyslane battled it out for a 3-3 draw a result which gave Moneyslane their first point of the season.
 
 
 
Division Four
In Division Four Ambassadors had a mixed bag this week losing to the 22nd Ladies on Wednesday night only to bounce back with victory at Greenisland on the Friday night, highlights of whih wil be amongst our featured games on our weekly video review this week. League leaders Rosario were forced to work hard for their points with only the one goal separating them in a 4-3 win at Killen Rangers Reserves with Ballymoney Utd remaining within a point of the summit after defeating Antrim Rovers. Whilst in the final game this week Dromara Village secured their first points of the season by defeating Belfast Ravens Seconds.
 
Division Five
And finally in Division Five leaders Lisburn Ladies Swifts defeated Belfast Celtic Ladies reserves and Ballymoney United had a good away win at JM Ladies.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 20/06/21

Championship
 
Lisburn Ladies continued their charge for promotion as they kept their perfect start to the season ongoing with a comfortable 9-2 win at East Belfast Ladies. Goals for Lisburn came from Kerry Taggart (x 3), Mia Rowan (x 2) Rachel Kerr, Claire Rooney, Jessica Sellars and Stacey Murdough, East’s consolation strikes both came from Shelly Stothers.
Mid Ulster Ladies also kept up the pace at the top of the table defeating Belfast Celtic Ladies 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick of goals from Jessica Magee and a single strike from Eimear McGarrity with the result leaving them within three points of the league summit.
St James Swifts find themselves in third place in the standings after easily defeating Ballymena United women 9-1 thanks to hat-tricks from recent signing Amber Dempster and Molly White who now seem to be forming a formidable partnership up top for the Belfast side. Swifts other goals came from Carla Devine (x 2) and Ella Copeland whilst United replied through Kara McCartney.
In the final game of the Championship a Shannon McCullough goal proved to be decisive as Comber Rec picked up their first win of the season by defeating Killen Rangers 1-0
 
Division 1
Just the two games completed this week in Division One with Larne Ladies continuing to set the pace as they made it four wins from four games played following a 4-1 win over Armagh City Ladies despite going a goal behind to a Beth McKinney strike. Larne however roared back and secured the points thanks to two goals apiece from Georgia Crawford and Amanda Morton.
In Division One’s only other game Foyle Belles also kept up the pace at the top although they were pushed all the way before eventually winning 3-2 at Coleraine Ladies. Foyle’s goals came from Ellie Redden, Michaela McGilloway & Loren Smallwoods with Coleraine’s replies both coming from Abby Alexander

Bangor Ladies picked up their first points of the season with a victory over Banbridge Town Ladies whilst St Oliver Plunkett ladies also won, this time against Ballymena United Reserves

In Division Three there were away wins in all four games with Carnmoney Ladies, Kilmore Rec Ladies, Ballynahinch Ladies and Camlough Rovers all winning. It’s Ballynainch and Camlough leading the way in Division Three with 13 points with Kilmore Rec in close pursuit on nine points with a game in hand.
 
Division Four
In Division Four it was a tough week for Belfast Ravens seconds XI who suffered two heavy defeats to Rosario and Ballymoney United however they deserve a lot of credit for continuing to battle away regardless, an attitude which will doubtless see them making good headway soon. Elsewhere Greenisland Ladies edged home against the 22nd Ladies and Antrim Rovers Ladies defeated Ambassadors. Rosario currently lead the way in Division four with Ballymoney in hot pursuit.
Division Five
And finally in Division Five Strabane Ladies and Newhill closed the gap on the league leaders Lisburn Ladies Swifts with both taking advantage of a free week for the Swifts and securing wins over Belfast Celtic Ladies and JM Ladies.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 13/06/21

Championship
The big clash between Lisburn Ladies and St James Swifts promised to be a tight game when the sides met at the Bluebell stadium last Wednesday night however as it turned out Lisburn were well on top cruising home by 7-1 thanks mainly to four goals from Kerry Taggart who was ably assisted by goals from Stacey Murdough, Rachel Kerr and Mia Rowan. Swifts consolation goal came from Carla Devine.
Mid Ulster Ladies also kept up their winning ways defeating Comber Rec 7-1 although their goals were more spread throughout the team thanks to two goals from Eimear McGarrity and single strikes from Lucy Badger, Jessica Magee, Rachel Rodgers, Sharagh Murphy and Roisin Bolger, Combers solitary reply came from a converted penalty by Lucy Carville
After picking up their first ever points in the Championship last week Belfast Celtic Ladies were brought back to earth as they lost 1-3 to Ballymena United women. The Celts had led 1-0 thanks to a 10th minute goal from Leah McAvoy but two goals from United’s Megan Henry and a third from Michelle McDonald saw the sky blues go home with the points.
And in the final game of the Championship it was honours even as Killen Rangers and East Belfast drew 2-2,Rangers goals coming from Grainne McLaughlin and Chelsea Scott with the East’s coming from Shelly Stothers and Kerry Eddis.
 
Division One
Ballymacash’s perfect start to the season came to a crashing end at Greysteel as hosts Foyle Belles hit three goals without reply thanks to 2 strikes from Loren Smallwood and a third from Bronagh Dunne. Elsewhere Portadown Ladies picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory at Crewe with Megan Newell netting two and Courtney Adamson netting for the Ports and the returning Ellen Morgan scoring on her return for Crewe. Finally in Division One Coleraine Ladies returned to winning ways with a 5-2 win over Armagh City thanks to goals from Cerys Sharkey (x2), Megan Alexander, Shairee Nicholl and Rachel Madden. The visitors goals came from captain Megan Bothwell and Carol Black.

Lisburn Rangers continued their sequence of big wins this time overcoming Ballymena Utd seconds while there was a win for Banbridge Town Ladies who narrowly defeated St Oliver Plunkett. In the divisions final game Carnmoney Athletic drew 1-1 with Belfast Swifts.
 
Division Three
Division Three is turning into a close race at the top with only one points separating the top three following wins for Ballynahinch Ladies, Kilmore Rec Ladies and Camlough Rovers Ladies who defeated Moneyslane, Banbridge Rangers and Shamrock Ladies respectively, The divisions final game between Carnmoney Ladies and Belfast Ravens ended scoreless.
 
Division Four
In Division Four there were big wins for Rosario and Ambassadors with Rosario now four points clear at the top of the table from Ballymoney United Ladies who however have three games in hand. Elsewhere Antrim Rovers had a fine win over Greenisland Ladies
 
Division Five
And finally in Division Five it’s Lisburn Ladies Swifts leading the way following their defeat of Ballymoney United with Newhill now in second place in the standings following their success over JM Ladies. Strabane Athletic’s 100% winning start to the season came to an end as they lost 0-1 to Craigavon City
 
 
 

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 04/07/21

CHAMPIONSHIP
 
The top three sides in the Championship all kept up the pace last week with all three recording comfortable victories to keep them in the hunt for promotion. Lisburn Ladies comfortably disposed of Belfast Celtic Ladies 11-2 with substitute Sara Stevenson being the star of the show netting five times despite only coming on as a second half sub. The other goals came from Stacey Murdough (x3), Mia Rowan (x2) and Kerry Taggart with Emma Louise McGonnell netting both goals for the Celts.
 
Mid Ulster Ladies remain in second place after defeating Killen Rangers 4-0 thanks to goals from Sharagh Murphy (x2), Lucy Badger and Jess Magee whilst St James Swifts also kept up their challenge after having came back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Comber Rec Ladies 6-2. Comber had stormed into the lead through goals from Shannon McCullough & Regan Montgomery but St James battled back superbly thanks to goals from Molly White (x2), Amber Dempster, Clare Shaw, Carla Devine and an own goal.
 
In the Championships final game Ballymena Utd Women also overcame a two goal deficit at East Belfast (goals on the night from Kerry Eddis, Hannah Kilgore & Lisa Falloon) to win 8-3 with their goals coming from Hannah Firth (x2), Megan Henry (x2), Indeea Neeson, Kylie Doherty, an own goal and Michelle McDonald, Highlights from this one care currently online on our weekly review show.
 
DIVISION ONE
Just the one game played in Division One this week but it turned out to be cracker as Portadown ladies edged out Armagh City by 3-2. Armagh had taken the lead through Joanna McKinney but an Anna Acheson hat-trick had saw the Ports turn the game in their favour however a second McKinney strike ensured they had to battle hard to hold on to the points.
 
BEST OF THE REST
Lisburn Rangers and Carnmoney Athletic continued their respective charges at the top of Division Two the Rangers defeating Belfast Swifts and Carnmoney overcoming Ballymena Utd Seconds. These results see Carnmoney remain one point clear at the top of the table but Rangers are only one point behind with a game in hand. Elsewhere in the division Belfast Swifts bounced back from that defeat by Lisburn Rangers to beat St Oliver Plunkett and Larne Olympic defeated Banbridge Town.
 
In division three there was a massive win for Kilmore Rec Ladies who defeated their promotion rivals Camlough 2-0 and in doing so moved within one point of their Co Down rivals with a game in hand. Ballynahinch made the most of this result moving three points clear at the top after a 4-1 win over Belfast Ravens whilst elsewhere there were wins for Carnmoney Ladies and Banbridge Rangers.
 
In Division Four Rosario remain top following a fine 2-0 wiin at Ambassadors although Ballymoney are only one point behind with two games in hand following their big win over the 22nd Ladies. In the league’s only other game this week Killen Rangers reserves defeated Belfast Ravens II’s.
 
In Division five Belfast Celtic Reserves have unfortunately had to withdraw from the league so there was only one game played which saw Newhill defeating Ballymoney Reserves.
 
And finally we wish all of our NIWFA teams every success in the quarter finals of this season’s Electric Ireland IFA Women’s challenge cup competition which will be played on July 23rd. NIWFA teams still remaining are Lisburn Rangers who defeated Lisburn Ladies in a fantastic game of football (highlights on our weekly video review) to set up a mouth watering tie v Cliftonville Ladies. Carnmoney who will take on the mighty Glentoran Women after defeating Camlough, Mid Ulster Ladies will now host Sion Swifts after defeating Belfast Celtic and St James Swifts who will travel to Seaview to take on Crusaders Strikers.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 27/06/21

Championship
The 100% record of Lisburn Ladies continued this week as they secured another fine win, this time easily disposing of Comber Rec by 9-0 thanks mainly to four more goals from in form Kerry Taggart who was ably assisted by to goals from Mia Rowan (x2), Abbie Burnett, Claire Rooney and Morgan Shannon. It’s not all one way traffic however for the league leaders as the ladies of Mid Ulster kept up the chase with a fine 3-0 victory themselves over Ballymena United Women, the goals in this one coming from Eimear McGarrity (x2) and Jessica Magee. Those results mean Lisburn lead Mid Ulster by six points but the Cookstown based side do have two games in hand. Elsewhere St James defeated East Belfast 5-1 their goals coming from Carla Devine (x2), Amber Dempster, Tiarna Hunter and Claire Shaw with the East’s reply coming from Rebecca Dickson whilst in the final game of the week there was a closely fought game between Killen Rangers and Belfast Celtic. Rangers came out on top in that one narrowly winning 4-3 thanks to an 88th minute penalty winner which was converted by Amy McFarland. Prior to this the game saw two goals from Killen’s Chelsea Scott, who responded well after missing an earlier penalty, and Stacey Johnston with Celtic’s replies from Katie Jo Catney, Leola McErlane and Amy Burden. Celtic’s Eadaoin ni Chiarrain was also sent off in this one for a second bookable offence.
 
Division 1
In Division One all top three sides recorded victories with current leaders Larne Ladies defeating Portadown 3-1 thanks to goals from Georgia Crawford, Elle Houston and Amanda Morton, the Ports reply coming from Megan Newell.
Crewe United’s week had started well on Wednesday with a 4-2 victory over Coleraine giving them their first win of the season thanks to a fantastic four goal haul from Ellen McClure (Coleraine’s goals from Lizzy McNoughter and Abby Alexander) however they were then sent crashing back to earth as second placed Ballymacash Rangers stormed home 13-0 against them on Friday night. The Rangers heroes of that one were captain Chloe Glover who scored four, Mollie Moore who also scored a hat- trick, Jodi Keenan (x2) Deborah McCarthy, Deborah Douglas, Jodie Murphy and an own goal.
Third placed Foyle Belles also keep themselves in contention with a 2-0 victory at Armagh City with captain Loren Smallwoods getting both the goals.

Division Two
 
Lisburn Rangers continue to storm their way through Division Two, St Oliver Plunkett being the latest side to be overwhelmed by the league leaders, Sophie Megaw was the main thorn in the side with no less than six individual goals in that game. Carnmoney Athletic are however refusing to give up the fight and remain two points off the summit following a comfortable win at Banbridge Town on Wednesday and then following this up with another big win, this time at the expense of Larne Olympic on Friday night. Larne Olympic did however have reason to celebrate earlier in the week following a victory at Belfast Swifts and in the final game of the week Ballymena United Ladies Seconds defeated Bangor.
 
Division Three
 
It’s Ballynahinch Ladies leading the way from Camlough Rovers in Division three with both sides securing wins this week against Banbridge Rangers and Belfast Ravens respectively. Kilmore Rec Ladies had a fine 3-2 victory away to Carnmoney while in the final game this week Shamrock Ladies and Moneyslane battled it out for a 3-3 draw a result which gave Moneyslane their first point of the season.
 
 
 
Division Four
In Division Four Ambassadors had a mixed bag this week losing to the 22nd Ladies on Wednesday night only to bounce back with victory at Greenisland on the Friday night, highlights of whih wil be amongst our featured games on our weekly video review this week. League leaders Rosario were forced to work hard for their points with only the one goal separating them in a 4-3 win at Killen Rangers Reserves with Ballymoney Utd remaining within a point of the summit after defeating Antrim Rovers. Whilst in the final game this week Dromara Village secured their first points of the season by defeating Belfast Ravens Seconds.
 
Division Five
And finally in Division Five leaders Lisburn Ladies Swifts defeated Belfast Celtic Ladies reserves and Ballymoney United had a good away win at JM Ladies.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 20/06/21

Championship
 
Lisburn Ladies continued their charge for promotion as they kept their perfect start to the season ongoing with a comfortable 9-2 win at East Belfast Ladies. Goals for Lisburn came from Kerry Taggart (x 3), Mia Rowan (x 2) Rachel Kerr, Claire Rooney, Jessica Sellars and Stacey Murdough, East’s consolation strikes both came from Shelly Stothers.
Mid Ulster Ladies also kept up the pace at the top of the table defeating Belfast Celtic Ladies 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick of goals from Jessica Magee and a single strike from Eimear McGarrity with the result leaving them within three points of the league summit.
St James Swifts find themselves in third place in the standings after easily defeating Ballymena United women 9-1 thanks to hat-tricks from recent signing Amber Dempster and Molly White who now seem to be forming a formidable partnership up top for the Belfast side. Swifts other goals came from Carla Devine (x 2) and Ella Copeland whilst United replied through Kara McCartney.
In the final game of the Championship a Shannon McCullough goal proved to be decisive as Comber Rec picked up their first win of the season by defeating Killen Rangers 1-0
 
Division 1
Just the two games completed this week in Division One with Larne Ladies continuing to set the pace as they made it four wins from four games played following a 4-1 win over Armagh City Ladies despite going a goal behind to a Beth McKinney strike. Larne however roared back and secured the points thanks to two goals apiece from Georgia Crawford and Amanda Morton.
In Division One’s only other game Foyle Belles also kept up the pace at the top although they were pushed all the way before eventually winning 3-2 at Coleraine Ladies. Foyle’s goals came from Ellie Redden, Michaela McGilloway & Loren Smallwoods with Coleraine’s replies both coming from Abby Alexander

Bangor Ladies picked up their first points of the season with a victory over Banbridge Town Ladies whilst St Oliver Plunkett ladies also won, this time against Ballymena United Reserves

In Division Three there were away wins in all four games with Carnmoney Ladies, Kilmore Rec Ladies, Ballynahinch Ladies and Camlough Rovers all winning. It’s Ballynainch and Camlough leading the way in Division Three with 13 points with Kilmore Rec in close pursuit on nine points with a game in hand.
 
Division Four
In Division Four it was a tough week for Belfast Ravens seconds XI who suffered two heavy defeats to Rosario and Ballymoney United however they deserve a lot of credit for continuing to battle away regardless, an attitude which will doubtless see them making good headway soon. Elsewhere Greenisland Ladies edged home against the 22nd Ladies and Antrim Rovers Ladies defeated Ambassadors. Rosario currently lead the way in Division four with Ballymoney in hot pursuit.
Division Five
And finally in Division Five Strabane Ladies and Newhill closed the gap on the league leaders Lisburn Ladies Swifts with both taking advantage of a free week for the Swifts and securing wins over Belfast Celtic Ladies and JM Ladies.

NIWFA / ELECTRIC IRELAND WEEKLY REVIEW – Week Commencing 13/06/21

Championship
The big clash between Lisburn Ladies and St James Swifts promised to be a tight game when the sides met at the Bluebell stadium last Wednesday night however as it turned out Lisburn were well on top cruising home by 7-1 thanks mainly to four goals from Kerry Taggart who was ably assisted by goals from Stacey Murdough, Rachel Kerr and Mia Rowan. Swifts consolation goal came from Carla Devine.
Mid Ulster Ladies also kept up their winning ways defeating Comber Rec 7-1 although their goals were more spread throughout the team thanks to two goals from Eimear McGarrity and single strikes from Lucy Badger, Jessica Magee, Rachel Rodgers, Sharagh Murphy and Roisin Bolger, Combers solitary reply came from a converted penalty by Lucy Carville
After picking up their first ever points in the Championship last week Belfast Celtic Ladies were brought back to earth as they lost 1-3 to Ballymena United women. The Celts had led 1-0 thanks to a 10th minute goal from Leah McAvoy but two goals from United’s Megan Henry and a third from Michelle McDonald saw the sky blues go home with the points.
And in the final game of the Championship it was honours even as Killen Rangers and East Belfast drew 2-2,Rangers goals coming from Grainne McLaughlin and Chelsea Scott with the East’s coming from Shelly Stothers and Kerry Eddis.

Ballymacash’s perfect start to the season came to a crashing end at Greysteel as hosts Foyle Belles hit three goals without reply thanks to 2 strikes from Loren Smallwood and a third from Bronagh Dunne. Elsewhere Portadown Ladies picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory at Crewe with Megan Newell netting two and Courtney Adamson netting for the Ports and the returning Ellen Morgan scoring on her return for Crewe. Finally in Division One Coleraine Ladies returned to winning ways with a 5-2 win over Armagh City thanks to goals from Cerys Sharkey (x2), Megan Alexander, Shairee Nicholl and Rachel Madden. NIWFA WEEK THREE REVIEW (wc 06/06)

Championship
 
Lisburn Ladies made it two wins from two games played thanks to a 6-1 victory over Ballymena United Women in the second round of fixtures in the Championship this season thanks to a hat-trick of goals from Sara Stevenson who was ably assisted on the day by further goals from Rachel Kerr (x2) and Kerry Taggart. United’s consolation goal came from Megan Henry.
 
St James Swifts bounced back from their opening day defeat comprehensively defeating Killen Rangers Ladies 6-1 thanks to three sets of braces (2 goals) from Amber Dempster, Molly White & Carla Devine, Killen’s goal coming from Chelsea Scott.
 
Meanwhile Belfast Celtic Ladies celebrated their first match following promotion with a three point haul at Comber Rec Ladies thanks to two goals from Leola McErlean and one from Sara-Lou McLaughlin. Comber had kept themselves in the game through a 50th club goal from Olivia Brown and when they scored a second through Leanne Watson on 87 minutes they almost secured a point but in the end Celtic held on for their first win of the season. Highlights from this game will feature in this weeks NIWFA Weekly review show.
 
Division 1
 
There were several big score lines in Division one with Larne Ladies leading the way with an 8-1 victory over Crewe United thanks to goals from Georgia Crawford (x 2), Ele Houston (x 2), Teah Maguire, Cathy Dunn, Hannah Robinson & Rebecca Boyce, Crewe’s solitary strike was by Ellen McClure.
 
Not to be outdone Foyle Belles also racked up eight goals in an 8-0 victory over Portadown Ladies, goals in this one coming from Katie Hargan ( x 3), Caithlin McMahon (x 2), Bronagh Dunne ( x 2) and Lorean Smallwoods.
 
Finally in Division One Ballymacash Rangers Ladies (pictured) were also amongst the goals as they defeated Coleraine Ladies 6-0 with all six of the goals coming from different players namely Natalya Connery, Deborah Douglas, an own goal, Jodie Murphy, Kirstyn McGuigan and Deborah McCarthy. The goals from this one will also feature on this weeks NIWFA video review show.

St Oliver Plunkett bounced back to winning ways after recovering from a 0-2 deficit for a 4-3 win over Larne Olympic, Bangor Ladies lost heavily at home to Carnmoney Athletic whose hero was five goal forward Aimee Kerr, while there was also a strong home win for Belfast Swifts over Ballymena United Women Seconds, the Swifts helped by a hat-trick of goals by Rebecca Cousins.
 
Division Three
 
Camlough romped home against Moneyslane mainly due to a fantastic six goal haul from Leanne Domican whilst the only other game in the division saw Ballynahinch Ladies defeat Carnmoney Ladies.
 
Division Four
 
In Division Four there were victories for Ballymoney United Ladies, Greenisland, Ambassadors Ladies and Rosario with Ballymoney and Greenisland both continuing their 100% starts to the season.
 
Division Five
 
Strabane Athletic continued their fine start to their NWIFA season with a fine 3-2 win over Lisburn Ladies Swifts although it did take a late converted penalty from Louise Coyle to secure the points. N the divisions other game Newhill and Craigavon City battled it out for a 3-3 draw at Sally Gardens

NIWFA WEEK TWO REVIEW (wc 30/05)

CHAMPIONSHIP

The NIWFA Championship got underway after its delayed start this week and with the prize of promotion to the Premiership on offer this season a number of sides made sure to make an early mark on the 2021 campaign. Leading the charge for promotion were Lisburn Ladies who secured a superb 9-1 win over Killen Rangers thanks to four goals from Kerry Taggart who was ably assisted by strikes from Sara Stevenson (x2), Jessica Hall, Claire Rooney & Mia Rowan. Killen’s consolation was netted by Chelsea Scott

 

Ballymena United Women also got their season off to a flier defeating Comber Rec Ladies 4-1 at Park Way. Goals in this one were spread around the park with Michelle McDonald, Megan Henry, Danielle Winter and Rachel Fulton all scoring for the visitors, Comber’s solitary strike coming from Lucy Carville.

 

And finally it was a much tighter affair at the Mid Ulster Arena where hosts Mid Ulster Ladies saw off a hard working St.James Swifts Ladies 2-0 thanks to goals from Sharagh Murphy and  Eimear McGarrity. This game will feature on the NIWFA Weekly show which returns to our screens on Monday night.

 

DIVISION ONE

Ballymacash Rangers Ladies made it two wins from two games played with a comprehensive 6-0 win over the Ladies of Armagh City thanks mainly to 5 goals from Mollie Moore, the other coming from Chloe Glover.

 

Larne Ladies also made it two from two with a great 4-1 win at Foyle Belles, Georgia Crawford being on target twice in that one and Cathy Dunn and Elle Houston being the others on target with Loren Smallwoods replying for the hosts.

 

And finally it was long journey home without any points for Portadown Ladies who lost 1-5 away to Coleraine Ladies. Two goals apiece from Alison Nicholl and Abby Alexander and one from Kylie Doherty saw the home side home with Megan Newell replying for the visitors.

 

BEST OF THE REST

There were thumping wins this week in Division Two for Lisburn Rangers Ladies and Carnmoney Athletic Ladies who defeated Larne Olympic and St Oliver Plunkett respectively. Ballymena Uniited Ladies Seconds had a narrow win over Banbridge Town whilst the final game in Division two saw Bangor Ladies and Belfast Swifts battle it out for a point apiece.

 

There were wins in Division three for Kilmore Rec Ladies who comprehensively defeated Moneyslane and Banbridge Rangers Ladies who overcame Carnmoney Ladies. The game between Ballynahinch Ladies and Camlough Tover ended in a draw.

 

In Division Four Ballymoney United Ladies kept up winning ways with a big win over Rosario whilst elsewhere there were also victories for Ambassadors (v Dromara Village), Antrim Rovers (v 22nd Ladies) and Greenisland Ladies who edged home against Killen Rangers Reserves.  

 

And finally in Division Five there were wins for Lisburn Ladies Swifts (v Newhill), Craigavon City Ladies (v JM Ladies) and Belfast Celtic Ladies Reserves who made it two from two after victory over Ballymoney United Ladies Reserves

NIWFA WEEK ONE REVIEW (wc 23/05)

With the Championship and Division two being delayed by the one week due to an appeal it was left to the sides from the other four NIWFA divisions to get the 2021 season underway and they certainly did so in style with loads of goals
 
Division One
 
In Division one Larne Ladies got their season off to a flyer with a 7-1 victory over Coleraine Ladies thanks to an Amanda Houston hat-trick backed up by doubles from Georgia Crawford & Elle Houston, Coleraine’s solitary reply coming from Alison Nicoll.
 
There were also goals a plenty at Shamrock Park as the hosts Portadown ladies narrowly lost out to Ballymacash Rangers 3-4. Deborah McCarthy had given Ballymacash the lead on 11 minutes only for Portadown’s Zoey McCallister to make it 1-1 before a second half goal burst from the visitors with three goals in 12 minutes (Chloe Glover x 2, Tracy Orr) gave the Lisburn side a comfortable lead. Portadown however refused to lie down and pulled two goals back through a McAllister second and a Courtney Adamson strike to reduce the deficit to a single goal. However the equalising goal never came and Ballymacash returned home with three important points.
 
In the final game in Division one there was a 4-1 victory for Armagh City Ladies over Crewe United, the Armagh goals coming from Cara Corr, Amy Robinson, Joanna McKinney & recently appointed captain Megan Bothwell with Crewe’s reply coming from Ellen McClure
 
Division Three
 
Belfast Ravens racked up nine goals in a 9-2 victory at Moneyslane despite going behind to an early goal from Emma Parker. After that early set back the Ravens dominated the game with five goals from Caiti McCloskey, three from Nicola McCarthy & a single strike from Lisa Black. Moneyslane’s second goal was scored by also scored by Emma Parker.
 
Shamrock Ladies also had to come back from an early setback after Banbridge Rangers’ Amy Niblock had given the visitors an early lead on 11 minutes. Undeterred Shamrock fought back to win 4-1 thanks to goals from Nikita O’Neill (x2), Cliodhna Petticrew and Rebekah Matthews.
 
A topsy turvy game at the Valley saw Camlough Rovers race into a three goal lead against Carnmoney Ladies thanks to goals from Olivia Connolly, Laura Cinnamond & Megan McClure. Carnmoney’s Charlotte McClure reduced the deficit to 1-3 but when the visitors Aoibh Carroll made it 4-1 the points seemed destined to be heading back to County Armagh. However the hosts had other ideas and fought back to level thanks to goals Kassie Stewart, Charlotte Thompson (pen) and a great strike from Lauren McCann. The fight back however was to be in vain as with 90 minutes on the clock Olivia Connolly notched her second of the night to break Carnmoney hearts and ensure a winning start for Camlough Rovers.
 
In the final game of the week in Division three Ballynahinch Ladies got off to a winning start defeating Kilmore Rec 3-1 thanks to goals from Aine Smyth, Megan Penny-Larter and Melissa Hiland after Chelsea Reid had given the hosts the lead.
 
Division Four
 
In Division Four there were comfortable 8-0 wins for the 22nd Ladies against Belfast Ravens Seconds (goals in this one from Kelly Wray (x 3), Katrina Montgomery (x3) and Courtney Hughes (x2) ) – and Greenisland who also hit eight without reply this time against Dromara Village Ladies, goals in this one coming from Lauren Smyth (x2), Kerri Moore (x2), Stacey Wilson (x2) Carly Payne & Aoife Burgess.
 
Rosario and Antrim Rovers claimed the only draw in the opening week of the new season as they battled out a 2-2 draw. Mea Mezza had given Rosario the lead only for a Kascie Weir double to turn the game upside down and give Antrim the lead. Rosario however wouldn’t give up and got a deserved point when Cliodhna Gartland made it 2-2 on 76 minutes.
 
In the final game of Division four Ballymoney United Ladies took home the points after defeating Ambassadors Ladies 5-2 thanks to goals from Keri Halliday (x2), Cleo Neece-Taggart, Emily Reid & Layla O’Hara. Ambassador’s consolation goals came from Stacey Hamilton & Rachel McAdoo
 
Division Five
 
In the Division five league, which consists of new teams making their debut in the NIWFA Leagues, there were wins for Lisburn Ladies Swifts (v JM Ladies), Newhill Ladies (v Belfast Swifts Reserves), Belfast Celtic Reserves (v Craigavon City) and Strabane Athletic (v Ballymoney United reserves)

Championship & Division 2 Season Start (27 May 2021)

The IFA Appeals Board has dismissed the appeal which delayed week one fixtures for the NIWFA Championship & Division Two.

Matches will therefore commence for these divisions from Sunday 30 May.

Season Start (23 May 2021)

 

It is with regret that we have to advise that, following an appeal being submitted to the Irish Football Association by a member club, that the commencement of week one fixtures for the NIWFA Championship & Division Two are to be delayed pending the hearing of the appeal.

 

We appreciate this announcement will cause disappointment to many of our member clubs but you have our assurance that we will endeavour to get your seasons underway as soon as possible.

Launch Day (16 May 2021)

The women’s game continues to grow with an entire new division of new teams in 2021.


The Northern Ireland Women’s Football Association (NIWFA) has launched its 2021 season with an increase in the number of teams participating and an additional division. Despite a delay to training and play due to Covid-19 restrictions, the NIWFA Leagues, sponsored by Electric Ireland, will get underway with 49 teams playing in six divisions with one full division being comprised entirely of new teams.


League matches are due to start on Sunday 23 May with Championship side St James Swifts hosting newly promoted Belfast Celtic Ladies, among 3 matches that day, and are scheduled to continue until September. 


Commenting on the return to play NIWFA Chair Valerie Heron said: “We are delighted to finally be able to launch the 2021 season. Although training has only been allowed since 12 April, and competitive matches have only been allowed since 23 April, we are in a strong position with an increase in both participating teams and divisions; for the second season running, we have had enough applications from new teams to fill a division, which reflects the continuing growth of the game. 


“We know that all the clubs are looking forward to competitive football again, but there are still constraints around pitch availability, and the use of facilities, and everyone involved must continue to follow Irish FA protocols.”


 Although a full League season is anticipated, the late start to the season means that NIWFA does not think there will be sufficient dates for divisional cup competitions however, plans are in place to arrange an overall NIWFA Super Cup competition.


 The Electric Ireland Women’s Challenge Cup, CAFA Cup and Mid Ulster Cup competitions are expected to go ahead this year and Anne Smyth, Sponsorship Specialist at Electric Ireland welcomed the development. “It is brilliant that the women can finally get back onto the pitch and it is so heartening to see the rise in the number of teams taking part. There is clearly a hunger for the sport. The NIWFA leagues are a hugely important part of the women’s football community here in Northern Ireland and we are delighted they are part of our Game Changers campaign, and we look forward to a season like no other where we hope we can support the leagues and players more and continue to raise the profile of women’s football as well as participation in the game.”
