Ballymena
United Allstars 0 - 3 Glentoran Belfast United
[Match
report: Andy Harrison]
Glentoran
Belfast United capped off a fantastic season with a 3 - 0 win
over Ballymena United Allstars on Monday night to complete an
amazing 100% record in their 2006 Carnegie Premier League campaign.
The
home side made it difficult for Glentoran in the first half, frustrating
the visitors, and making it difficult for them to find any of
the rhythm that they have displayed throughout the season. Indeed
it finished goaless at the end of the first half after a fighting
display by Ballymena, who were determined to be the only team
to take any points of Glentoran this season.
5
minutes into the second half, however, Glentoran took the lead
when the ever impressive Kelly Bailie curled a left footed corner
straight in, helped by a cold wind that was now blowing in the
Belfast team's favour.
Second
half substitute Jacqueline McCutcheon, playing at right back,
provided a more attacking option down the right in the second
half, linking up well with Lynsey Patterson and Glentoran started
to dominate proceedings, winning a succession of corners and keeping
Ballymena in their own half.
With
20 minutes gone in the second half, one of Glentoran's corners
paid off as Kelly Bailie whipped in a great cross which was met
by captain Alissa Lange who headed the ball home to make it 2
- 0.
Glentoran
continued to press until the final whistle, and 2 minutes before
time was up, Ashleigh Murray rounded off Glentoran's league season
with a well taken third goal to see the champions home and dry.
Now,
with only one game between them and a 100% record in all competitions,
and the IFA Cup to potentially add to their Premier League Cup
and Carnegie Premier League Titles, Glentoran Belfast United will
be firmly focused on winning the IFA Cup final on Friday night
at Taylors Avenue...
