Completion of the Level One course qualifies a person to coach children and young people (6 – 16 years of age) under the supervision of a more qualified football coach.
The course will take place at the Dub Playing Fields, Belfast, from 9.30am-5.00pm on Sunday 4 May, Sunday 11 May, and Sunday 18 May 2008.

Each Level One Coaching Award candidate must complete 24 guided learning hours with a tutor (this includesa certified IFA Child Protection course and an IFA/ British Red Cross First Aid course). In addition, each candidate must complete his / her log sheet with 6 hours coaching experience at their local club/school or at a CIS Licensed Mini-Soccer Centre.

To register, and for further information on this course, please contactFiona Adairon fadair@irishfa.comor on 02890 688426. The cost of the course is £200, which includesa comprehensive resource pack to cover all modules of the course as well as the IFA First Aid for Football course, Child Protection Awareness course and POCVA checking.
National Women’s Coach Alfie Wyliesupports the female-only course: “I would encourage all females who want to get more involved in the coaching side of football to sign up to this course. It is a great introduction into the coaching process and a greater number of female participants can only have a positive impact upon girls and womens football development in Northern Ireland.”

The IFA Level 1 is an extremely enjoyable and relaxed course. An experienced tutor will assist participants in gaining knowledge to develop a basic understanding of safe, ethical and effective football coaching to young people.

Participants will learn how to: Safely organise and supervise football activities including mini-soccer, small sided, and conditioned games; Promote and establish working relationships and high standards between players, coaches, parents and officials; Understand different aspects of coaching children; Identify and adapt football activities and sessions for a variety of different age groups; Identify personal development opportunities in football including sports therapy, administration and officiating.

This IFA Level One Award has now replaced the Junior Team Managers (JTM) Award and Teachers’ Award.
