Thanks also to the hard-working NIWFA Committee for running a superb Women’s League.
The young Swifts squad can now look forward to hopefully another successful season in Division 2 next year.

Swifts Ladies to meet best team in N Ireland

Sion Swifts Ladies have been drawn against recently crowned N Ireland Women’s Premier League winners Glentoran Belfast United in the N Ireland Coca-Cola FA Cup semi-final which will be played at Stangmore Park , Dungannon on Monday 5th September, 7.30pm kick-off. The Glens are unbeaten this season and are current holders of the N Ireland FA Cup. Boasting a host of N Ireland international women, U19 and U17 players the Glens are outright favourites to lift the FA Cup for the second year. Having won the Premier League this season they will also play in the European Women’s Champions League next year.
In the other semi-final Crusaders Strikers and Linfield who finished second and third respectively in the Women’s Premier League will battle it out for a place in the final.
Although the Swifts Ladies won the N Ireland Women’s 3rd Division they are currently 31 places behind their illustrious opponents. Unbeaten this year the young Swifts team are serious underdogs against a Glentoran team which is much more physical and experienced.
Sion Swifts Danny Gallagher commented “Although this is a case of David facing Goliath and probably the biggest game that our Ladies have ever had to face we really have nothing to lose as we have exceeded our expectations so far in reaching the semi-final of the prestigious Women’s FA Cup. We are serious underdogs and probably expected to get thumped by a team whose players have all got international experience at some level, including six players who currently play for the N Ireland International Women’s team. That said we have seven players who now have International experience at U15, U17 and U19 level. Glentoran will know that we are a decent side who have disposed of 2 Championship teams on our way to the semi-final and in a sense there may be more pressure on them but time will tell if the gulf between the two teams is too wide.”
Congratulations to International players

The Swifts would like to congratulate Alana Mc Shane, Zara O Hagan and Lauren Brennan who were chosen to play for the N Ireland U17 team in two friendlies away to Belguim this week. Congratulations also to Jessica Moorehead who was also picked to play for the U17 squad but then was called up to the N Ireland U19 team to play in two friendlies away to Portugal.also this week.
