This online learning, which was designed by Destination Data Ltd, uses new visual displays to give the general public easy learning of the correct lifesaving techniques.
Each year many hundreds of UK families suffer tragedy through accidental death by drowning or choking, at home, or on holiday. Sudden collapse from cardiac arrest affects thousands, over 90% die within minutes. Death too often occurs just because no-one there knew what to do before medical help arrives.
Geoff Wilson, Irish FA Head of Marketing and Communications said: “The Irish FA knows that footballers and its supporters are not immune from being affected and wants to help promote a nationwide interest in learning on how to save a life, in support of the Royal Life Saving Society UK’s objective for “A life saver in every home.” The Association is delighted to support this initiative and I am sure it is something that other sports will consider in the future.”
With reports such as “Every week eight (it is thought it could be double that) apparently fit young people collapse and die – on the sports field, at home, on holiday … sudden death among the young is a weekly tragedy that gets little publicity”, Adrian Lole (Development Director) from RLSS said: “ There are far too many avoidable accidental drowning, choking and sudden collapse deaths, I would like to thank the Irish FA for their support of this innovative online learning programme to help us achieve our life saver in the home objective.”
