Derry City destined to lift the league cup?

Davisons Frudles Division OneKnockbreda Ladies 1- 7 Derry City Ladies

Although the scoreline does not reflect it up untill 60minutes this was an evenly fought contest of two contrasting styles of football.
Derry on the tight pitch still trying to play their passing game with Knockbreda playing a more direct game.

Derry started lively and scored with their first attack Some great wing play by quigley crossing a inch perfect ball to mckinley who touched it on for Connolly to get her first of three on the night.

This should have opened the floodgates for the candy stripes but Knockbreda were to prove to be resilient in defence and with their keeper probably their player of the match

Derry had a few chances but did not take them and then Knockbread hit on the break and the teams went in level at half time.

Derry startedthe half quickly and young connolly again added her second. Derry then made a substitution which was to change the course of the match , Young dunne who has only returned from injury in the past few weeks came on and added much needed energy for derry. It would not belong before Dunne was to get her name on the score sheet when she would not give up on what seemed like a lost cause and when the keeper just couldnt control the ball and dunne colly slotted home .

With derry now in control and player of the match Ferguson pulling the strings even a missed penalty would not stop the ladies,. Connolly added another and Dunne converted a header from an inch perfect pass from Ferguson . With Mccauley and heart keeping the door firmly shut at the back the ladies never looked like conceding again and with Lavery and quigley on the right and fitzpatrick and ferguson on the left the candy stripes were able to make the most of the quality passing from McKinley and logue in the centre and now seemed to be able to score at will. Then the moment of the match arrived with ferguson picking the ball up
in her own half and beaten three of the Knockbreda side she cut inside the
centre half and slammed the ball home to complete the scoring the goal was
nothing more than her performance deserved

The win keeps the ladies eight points clear at the top of the league
