Quigleys young charges edge closer to league title

Portaferry unable to handle tenacity of the young Derry City squad

Derry City ladies returned to winning ways tonight against Portaferry ladies in the NIWFA Davisons Division 1 game.

This was to prove to be a very onesided match with Portaferry missing key players and the gap just proved to big for them

Derry started well and within the first few minutes they took the lead with a great shot that the keeper failed to hold onto being spilled into the back of the net.
But Portaferry where to get one back in almost the same manor with the Derry keeper letting one slip through her hands as well

Then the class of the Candy stripes took over and as hard as Portaferry tried they could do nothing to stop the Derry onslaught

With captain Amanda Heaney showing her class this time from the middle of the park Bronagh McKinley took her chance to grab a hatrick

The ever improving Demi Leigh Fitzpatrick chipped in with one along with Niamh Connolly who also had one of them Ronny Rosenthal misses as well when from 2 yards out she managed to scoop it high over the bar , Molly Mcbride chipped in with two

Kerry Ferguson returned to scoring ways with two and with Centre back Nicole McCauley stepping up to score her first of the season from the penalty spot the score line ended an infactic 10-1 to the candy stripes

This secured the ladies place at the top of the league with the teams in second and third playing one another 24 hours later

Next up for the Ladies is Banbridge away in the Divisional Cup
