NI WOMEN TO TAKE ON WALES
18/02/2010
THE Northern Ireland senior women’s squad will take on their Welsh counterparts on Wednesday (February 24) in a friendly international at The Oval.
And National Women’s Coach Alfie Wylie has named an 18 player squad for the game which will be the side’s final preparation match before their World Cup qualifying campaign kicks-off again in March with a double header against France.
“A number of the girls are based in England, so this will be the first time that the whole squad has been together since our World Cup Qualifier against Iceland in October,” said Alfie.
“The local girls have been training together and have played a game against a boys squad from the County Down Norfolkline Centre of Excellence which was of great benefit and I just would like to thank the County Down Performance Coach, Raymond Alexander for facilitating us.”
Alfie added: “This friendly game against Wales will be good preparation for next month’s World Cup Qualifiers and it will also provide us with an opportunity to have a look at some of the girls who have come through the County system over the last few years and who did extremely well against the Australia U18 Schoolgirls team at the end of January.”
The game against Wales on Wednesday kicks-off at 4.00pm and everyone is welcome to come along and cheer the girls on.
