Match Report
13.5.10 Glentoran BU Reserves v Ballymena Allstars Reserves
3rd place Ballymena travelled up to face league leaders Glentoran BU. The game kicked off with some BU pressure, with them trying to settle into the game early.
BU created some early chances with shots from O’Hanlon and McCloskey. As the first half went on Ballymena tried to get into the game but were shut down well by the BU midfield and defence, with good closing down from Wilson.
BU pressure grew as the first half went on and they were creating a lot of chances on goal. A break through was to come when Gratton got through and flicked the ball to McCloskey who scored a brilliant goal from outside the box to make it 1-0 BU. The first half ended with both teams fighting hard for the ball.
Throughout the second half BU made a series of subs, Crawford coming off for Reid and Craig coming on for Hutton. The second half started like the first with BU pressing. BU won a lot of corners and free kicks and created some good opportunities on goal. BU pressure proved too much for Ballymena to cope with, when O’Hanlon got through to add another to their tally and make it 2-0 BU.
After that goal BU settled into the game and added a 3rd when Reid crossed a brilliant ball for O’Hanlon to make it 3-0. Ballymena got into the game for a bit and grabbed a goal back to make it 3-1.
This didn’t stop BU from attacking because soon after Gratton got through and lobbed the keeper to make it 4-1, moments later Craig made it 5-1 to BU and the match was out of sight for Ballymena.
Ballymena kept trying to the end and scored a late goal to make it 5-2. This was how the match ended, a good win and another 3 points for BU.
