Eva Mccloskey From Gbu Reserves Takes On Linfield Defence

It was the first match of the season for the Glentoran reserve team, being lead by their new captain Downey. The match started with pressure from Glentoran and O’Hanlon getting involved in the play. As the half went on GBU had some chances which forced the keeper to make some saves. Linfield tried to create some chances but it was dealt with well by the Glentoran defence and midfield, with some good pressure and closing down from Wilson.

Throughout the first half play was being broke up by the two teams and both teams were trying to find their feet and settle into the game. As the first half went on GBU began to get into their stride and get into the game, with brilliant play form O’Hanlon. A first goal was soon to come when Gratton got through to have her shot just saved and Nethercott converted the rebound to make it 1-0 to Glentoran.

Throughout the second half Glentoran made a series of subs with Bamford coming off for Cowan, O’Hanlon coming off for Hinton and Hutton coming on for Crawford. The second half started with more Glentoran pressure and about 10 minutes in Gratton got through to score a brilliant goal and made it 2-0. Glentoran were playing well and creating chances which was to pay off when Gratton got through again to score her second goal of the night and make it 3-0 to Glentoran.

Linfield tried to get into the game but were shut out by Glentoran’s midfield and defence with good defending form Downey, Wilson, and McCloskey. Throughout the second half it was all Glentoran and their hard work was rewarded when Gratton got through again and made it 4-0 with a cool finish and this completed her hatrick, and rounded off a good performance from Gratton. The final whistle went and it was a good win and a successful start to the season for GBU Reserves.
