The NIWFA ladies’ football season has been up and running for four weeks now with Rossglass Ladies finding their feet with a developing new squad and new manager Audrey Hanna & coach, Gary Emerson and asst Donna Marks. It has been a trying time but through dedication and hard work the girls have finally won their first match with a battling encounter with Crumlin United – a side who have not lost any matches during the season.
Orla Beattie, Julianne Madine, Denise Sinclair and Clara Kerr all worked tirelessly in defence during this fast paced game and helped protect Stephanie Goley in nets. The defence was industrious with some fine tackles and clearances of the ball. Goley made a couple of fine saves to keep the County in contention.
The midfield quartet of Fatima Ross, Mary McGrady (captain), Natalie Kelly and Clare Morgan all rediscovered their scoring touch with all of the goals coming from this area. Mary McGrady (2), Natalie Kelly and Clare Morgan all found the net and kept the Crumlin keeper busy. Pressure was piled on the Crumlin midfield, with Rossglass edging out to be the better side.
Up front Tracey McGarry and Ashlene Kearney linked well to make a formidable duo and had the Crumlin defence sighing with relief after a few shots grazed wide of the nets. Roisin Burke took over in nets in the second half and made a match winning save in the dying seconds to prevent Crumlin from getting an equaliser. Lisa Kempster made her debut up front for the County – fresh legs and determination making Rossglass push all the way. Rossglass throughout the match maintained their enthusiasm and determination to win the match and didn’t cave in.
Rossglass were missing a few of their regular players in Janice & Leisa Emerson, Siobhan Polly, Sharon McComb, Laura Geddis and Laura Reid.
