Tollymore Athletic Ladies 1

A cold and wet Wednesday evening saw Tollymore take on Limavady in Mallusk. Tollymore had the majority of chances in the opening fifteen minutes and Limavady needed a goal line clearance from Amy-Lee McIvor to keep the sides even. More Tollymore pressure was soaked up by Kim Middleton and Karen McAllister in the heart of Limavady’s defence before Tollymore were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area.

The resulting shot was blocked and fell to Tollymore’s striker who curled her shot on target needing Limavady keeper, Sarah Lemon, at full stretch to turn the ball wide of danger. Both teams created chances to score with none being converted, the best of which was a series of passes linking Tollymore’s midfield to their attack ending with their forward seeing her shot saved.

Just before the end of the half, Rebekah McMullan found herself clear on goal but Tollymore’s goalkeeper rushed out and made an instinct save from point-blank range to keep the game goal-less.

At the start of the second half both sets of players found it difficult to adjust to the quick surface from the sudden rainfall making for some half-chances and no-nonsense defending. Ten minutes into the half and Limavady’s Orla Boyle played a perfect pass down the wing to find McMullan whose first time cross was steered in by Louise McAllister to break the deadlock, 1-0.

This goal brought Tollymore into the game and they responded with their forward beating the offside trap to shoot, only to see her shot saved by the outstretched leg of Lemon. The rebound fell back to the forward who took advantage to slot home making 1-1.

With the first goals of the game opening up play, Limavady are spurred on and it is not long before McAllister finds herself through on goal. With the keeper rushing out to the edge of her box, McAllister knocked the ball out her reach and into the corner of the goal to restore Limavady’s lead.

With the game entering the last ten minutes both teams go in search of a goal. Tollymore, to get a point and Limavady to confirm all three. The goal arrives eight minutes from the end. Limavady steal it, when quick thinking from Boyle sees her throw-in find Carole Cooke who plays a superb pass to McAllister, who drives the ball into the net completing her hat-trick.
