Match Report
Larne Ladies remain bottom of the NIWFA Championship after an away fixture which included eight goals, a missed retaken penalty and an outstanding performance from Coleraine keeper Alison Harkness.
A good start saw Larne in the lead after six minutes, centre forward Rachel Miller finishing at the left post from a corner kick, sustained pressure saw fine saves deny midfield duo Trish Neill and Teah Maguire in the first fifteen minutes.
Coleraine levelled on twenty minutes but with Larne’s midfield and front line working well together Teah Maguire’s close range finish made it 2-1. Coleraine equalised again after forty two minutes, Larne thought they had regained the lead on forty three minutes but a questionable offside decision saw the half end 2-2.
At the start of the second half Larne continued to press but failure to finish chances allowed Coleraine to gain confidence and take a 4-2 lead. The end to end nature and quick tempo of the game saw Larne awarded a penalty on eighty minutes. Before the referee could blow his whistle the kick had been blasted wide, the retake by Gill Small on target and to the keeper’s right resulted in another fantastic save.
With the game entering its last ten minutes Larne’s search to get something from the game saw a Trish Neill free kick cannon off the bar before Jenna Mulholland sparked hope of an equaliser by making it 4-3 with two minutes left but Coleraine had the final say and an action packed contest ended 5-3.
