GBU welcomed newcomers to the Premier League, Cliftonville ,to Billy Neill home ground for the first meeting between the clubs this season. It was a good start from both teams in the opening exchanges. On the 3rd minute Glentoran won a penalty, captain Bailie stood up to make it 1 -0 and Glentoran were off to a good start. Straight after kick – off Glentoran were on the attack again and searching for a second goal and their continuous pressure paid off when O’Hagan got through on goal to make it 2-0 with a nice finish.
Cliftonville piled on the pressure and won a free kick on the edge of the box which they slotted through the GBU defence to make it game on at 2-1. A GBU goal was soon to come when Doherty got through to take it round the keeper and score the 3rd of the night, 3-1 Glentoran. GBU were getting into their stride and Caldwell broke free to make it 4-1.

Moments into the second half Glentoran added to their tally with Caldwell making it 5-1. Glentoran pressure kept up and they created chance after chance.
Cliftonville struggled to contend with GBU’s interplay but fought vigorously for every ball. Soon after O’Hagan was played through on goal and made It 6-1 to Glentoran. As the second half went on Glentoran got into their stride, winning a lot of corners which nearly led to goals, their good corner tally paid off when McCutcheon converted a well placed corner from Bailie, 7-1 BU. Another goal was to come for GBU when Macklin scored the 8th and final goal of the night . Several other chances by GBU which appeared to have the ball cross the line were ruled out by the official.
