Match Report
Glentoran were playing against YMCA in their first away match of the season, with the match kicking off at 7.30. In the opening 5 minutes Glentoran pressed the ball and had some good possession, creating some chances with O’Hagan hitting her shot just over the bar. The match was very competitive with both teams closing each other down and breaking up the play.
YMCA tried to get into the game and create some chances, with them having some free kicks but Glentoran’s defence shut them out and cleared the danger.
As the first half went on Glentoran gradually started to put more pressure on the YMCA defence with shots from O’Hagan and a brilliant long range shot from around 25 yards from Corry which forced the keeper to make a good save.
A BU first goal was soon to come, when Glentoran pressure proved too much for YMCA and Mulholland got through to put the ball in the back of the net, 1-0 Glentoran.
The first half ended with both teams fighting hard for the ball and intercepting each other.
The second half began with Glentoran making a series of subs. O’Hanlon coming off for Stephens and Hislop coming on for Doherty.
The second half started like the first with Glentoran putting pressure on YMCA and searching for a second goal. YMCA tried to create some chances, but they didn’t really force keeper, Downey to make a save. Around the 60th minute Glentoran made their final sub, Macklin coming on for Lowey.
Soon after Glentoran created a chance and came close to a second goal when Hislop played a good ball through to O’Hagan who hit her shot just over the bar.
As the second half went on Glentoran kept pushing for a second goal, but YMCA kept breaking the play up. Glentoran pressure was soon to pay of when a well placed through ball put captain Bailie one on one with the keeper, and she placed the ball well in the corner making it 2-0 to Glentoran.
In the final moments of the match YMCA tried to press but they couldn’t get past Glentoran’s midfield or defence.
The final whistle was soon to come, and the match ended with Glentoran pressing high into YMCA’S half.
The match ended 2-0 to Glentoran, 2 wins out of 2 and another 3 points for BU.
