The first match of the season kicked off 15 mins late due to the late arrival of the match referee. It was a typical early season match with both teams trying to get into their rhythm . Glentoran began to find their way with some good possession, putting in good crosses and shots which tested the new keeper in the opposition’s nets.
The first goal came around the 17th minute, when O’Hagan ,picked the ball up at a wide angle and lobbed it over the keeper with a brilliant finish, 1-0 Glentoran! Moments later Glentoran came close to a second with Corry playing a ball through to Macklin which hit the bar. A Glentoran second goal was soon to come, when they won a free kick wide of the box. Capt. Bailie stepped up to take it and put in a brilliant cross for O’Hagan to score her second goal of the night. 2-0 Glentoran!
The 2nd half saw Preds step up their game a bit and despite early pressure from them, the home team continued to make the best of any chances . Glens made a series of substitutions which saw O’Hanlon, Hislop and Downey enter the fray.

On the 70th minute O’Hagan picked up the ball , beat the defence, and was taken down inside the box. O’Hagan took the resulting penalty which was well saved by the keeper. Glentoran continued to put on the pressure with attempts on goal from Bailie and O’Hanlon. With the second half coming to an end another goal was on the way for Glentoran, Docherty coming in from the left to score the 3rd and final goal of the match. The final whistle went, a successful start to the season, 3 points to Glentoran.
